Celery Juice+ aka Bodyguard

image from google images

While I’m very excited to write about this juice, it happens to be my least favorite (mainly because I do not like the taste), but I will still give you the gist on the reason this juice is probably the most beneficial of all the juices I have made. The juice contains celery (60%), orange and carrot (20% each). I would not be writing about the benefits of orange and carrot because I already did in my previous posts.

Celery is an herb and that contains vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. It is one of the plants that contains very strong antioxidant properties (if you are wondering what antioxidants are, you can refer to my free posts). One of the main compounds found in celery called “apiin” gives the plant its antioxidant properties. In addition to this, celery lowers blood pressure while protecting several organs from oxidative stress. If you are someone who worries about long-term risks associated with our modern-day lifestyles (stress, eating junks/processed foods, less sleep etc) the possible repercussions on our health, celery is your peace. Its documented antioxidant properties are second to none. Consistent consumption of celery has anticarcinogenic effect. The link to an extensive research paper where I got most of the information on celery from is below for those who want more information on benefits of celery.

Jack of all trades

Spinach, Lettuce and Pineapple – Jack of all trades

This is my favorite juice combo so far. The name literally says it all, except that this juice is equally master of all trades. It is a one-stop health augmenting juice that contains Spinach, Lettuce and Pineapple. Spinach has numerous nutrients including; Potassium, Zinc, Magnesium, Iron and calcium just to mention a few important ones. It aids digestion, boost eyesight, has anti-inflammatory properties, lowers blood pressure, improves brain function and strengthen muscles. Infants can be fed Spinach from 6-8 months for healthy growth and vitality. Lettuce is vegetable with multiple health benefits as well. It slows ageing, boosts immune system with potent antioxidant properties. I added Pineapple to the juice to sweeten it and make it more palatable. I recommend frequent consumption of this juice combo particularly for those who can’t eat fresh Lettuce and Spinach in salads (like me), because of it’s anti-stress properties especially in the face of work related stress that is vastly becoming ubiquitous. Feel free to skip the pineapple if you don’t like your juice sweet. Interestingly, I discovered Lettuce and Spinach combo is neither bitter nor sweet which is good for those who don’t want additional calories from sugar containing fruits such as Pineapple. You can check the health benefits of Pineapple from my previous posts “Renew”. Kindly drop comments and hit the like button if you found this useful. You can also share your experience if/when you try the juice. Recipe Below;

Thank you for reading!

For 540ml juice volume I used:

Spinach – Half a mid-sized packed bunch

Romaine Lettuce – 10 regular leaves

Pineapple – Quarter of a whole (mid-size) pineapple

First Juice – Renew

I named my first juice renew simply because of the powerful benefits of the juice. I mixed 3 fruits together in this juice. Renew is a mix of orange, pineapple and carrot. These fruits contain powerful antioxidants that can help in the regeneration of body cells while boosting the immune system. Carrot contains Vitamin A and Beta Carotene which mop up free radicals (toxic by-products) in the body. Free radicals are highly reactive substances that are capable of damaging or mutating healthy cells in the body and has also be linked to ageing. Orange contains Vitamin C which also has antioxidant properties similar to Vitamin A, but in addition stimulates production of collagen which is responsible for keeping the skin firm and hydrated. Pineapple on the other hand is a good source of Manganese and has been linked to lowering cholesterol (you can add this to your high cholesterol treatment) in the body, improvement of digestive system just to mention a few of the nutritional benefits this fruit gives. Renew keeps the body healthy and looking younger. Incorporate this juice into your diet and your body will thank you for it. This is a very sweet juice for those that love sweet fruits like me. However, if you are weight conscious, you can use more of the carrots and less of the pineapple as the sugar content in the pineapple can add more calories to your diet. The recipe is below. Kindly drop your feedback and comments for more tips on juicing.

The Journey Begins – Juicing Starter kit

Thanks for joining!

I recently got motivated to start juicing and I found the thought of documenting my experience thrilling. Perhaps, I could spark off some people’s desire to juice with some of the recipes and best practices I would be sharing. Being an amateur blogger, kindly bear with me as I grow in this art of writing. Not to bug you down with too much details, I would be sharing my starter kit in this first publication. Get excited people!
Starter kit ($150 budget)

1. Masticating juicer: Although masticating juicers are generally pricey, they are better than the common centrifugal juicers because the oxidation rate of the fruit is very low and the juice can be preserved for up to 72hours. In addition, masticating juicers can be used to juice both fruits and leaves while centrifugal juicers are for fruits only. I bought the Aicook brand on amazon. Link is below: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J5NSP5D/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_api_i_wSB4Cb6E8KPTP I specifically chose this brand because it is easy to assemble, and clean with high juice yield. It also comes with a brush for ease of cleaning. This is a real value for money

2. Glass storage bottles: Glass bottles are known to be non-reactive and don’t change the taste of your juice. They are also easy to clean with minimal tendency for bacteria growth when compared to plastics. The link to the bottles I bought is below: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XFVPQ17/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
3. Citrus juicer: For citrus lovers like me, I prefer to use a separate citrus juice because it reduces the time I spend prepping the fruits for juicing. They are very cheap also. I got a brand from amazon that works really well. Link is below: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EU9VSM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These are the basic things you need to start juicing your way to good health. As the saying goes, health is wealth. I hope you found this useful. Drop comments below for any feedback or juicing topics you’d want to know more about.
